Below I list the top 10 reasons why I cloth diaper. Read them through and let me know what you think. If you have any cloth diapering questions let me know, I am more than happy to answer them.
1) They are so damn cute! Nothing is cuter or more fashionable than a baby in a cloth diaper. Modern cloth diapers come in totally gorgeous prints and colours; you name the colour or print and they make it. A crunchy, scratchy, plain white disposable diaper cannot compare.
2) Cloth diapers are so much cheaper than disposables. Yes, you have to spend more up front but, over the 2-3 years that a little one is in diapers, you can save hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
3) They are better for the environment. Cloth diapering means less waste and less energy used. We all know why that is important.
4) You can use cloth diapers for more than one child. I bought my cloth diapering system with my first baby and I am now using it for my second baby. By baby number three, the money I will have saved will be HUGE!
5) Good cloth diapers are way more absorbent than disposables. This means less leaks which means less laundry. That's a good thing.
6) Cloth diapers are healthier for your baby. Most people don't actually know what is in disposable diapers. Here are a few things to wrap you tongue around... if you can pronounce them: dye, fragrance, plastic, toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene, dipentene. I won't go and on about this, you can Google it if you want more information.
7) Well kept cloth diapers get better with age. The more you wash them, the more absorbent they become.
8) There is a great used market for cloth diapers, this means when you are done with your diapers, you can resell them. Well kept, good quality cloth diapers can sell for as much as 50-70% of their original value.
9) If you use cloth diapers, you will never run out of diapers thus avoiding inconvenient trips to the store. Just pop in a load of laundry and you are set!
10) If you use cloth diapers you can be a complete smug-ass about it and feel great, like I do, because you know you are doing the best for your baby and for the environment! Ok, maybe I preached a little.

Would you ever cloth diaper?

The Real Diaper Association (www.realdiaperassociation.org) is launching
the Real Diapers, Real Babies Photo Contest this week. Winning photos, as
selected by RDA members, will grace the pages of their first annual RDA
Calendar, with the top three winners to receive special prizes. The Grand
Prize is sponsored by diapershops.com (www.kellyscloset.com), with
runners-up to receive prizes from Babies in Bloom (www.babies-in-bloom.com)
