This could be a short and/or disjointed blog post. I am a little over extended at the moment. In case you have not heard, I had this crazy idea to try and write a novel in the month of November for National Novel Writing Month. The initial excitement is officially wearing off; I am not dreading the task yet but, I feel the hate coming on.
10773 words so far. I could see the hate really setting in around 15000 words. We'll see.
So, the big question is how am I managing to write this novel so far??
1) Big time support from my Husband who is actually encouraging this little experiment. Big ups to him for being disillusioned enough to believe in me. Hugs baby!
2) Music, music and more music.
I am a music addict; it helps get me through the day. Sometimes I feel like I am creating soundtracks for my own little life. I may have one of the most overworked stereos and iPods in town and I rely on them more than I probably should.
This somewhat, unhealthy, reliance became so very clear about 2 weeks ago when my new, swish stereo system suddenly would not turn on. It was nap time and I needed to do some cleaning and writing and I was unable to put my tunes on. It sounds melodramatic but, I seriously almost had a full blown anxiety attack over it.
Did I go without music that afternoon... heck no! I put my iPod on and luckily my Hubs fixed the stereo when he got home from work. Crisis avoided!
I can't usually write without music. In fact, I am listening to music right now. I thought I would jot down some of the stuff that is helping make this novel possible.
Lykke Li - Youth Novels
Front to back, side to side this entire album rocks. It even comes complete with a little meditation inspired intro. If you like Bjork, you will love Lykke Li. Favs: Tonight, Little Bit, Complaint Department, Dance Dance Dance. I also recommend downloading the Little Bit version featuring Drake.
Ingrid Michealson - Girls and Boys & Everybody
Both of these CDs are amazing. She is the only good thing to come out of my short Grey's Anatomy viewing stint. My faves are Die Alone, Incredible Love, Starting Now, Mountain and the Sea, Once was Love and Corner of Your Heart.
Kings of Leon - Only By The Night & Because of the Times
Seriously, who can resist this band of brothers. Both albums rock. I especially love Revelry, I Want You and Knocked Up. I also recommend downloading the version of Knocked Up featuring Lykke Li.
Tegan and Sara - The Con, So Jealous & Sainthood
Love this Canadian sister act. So Jealous is a bit of a dirty recording (that was in when it was released) but it is still awesome. Favourites: I Won't Be Left, Walking With the Ghost, I Know I Know I Know, Soil Soil, Nineteen, The Cure, The Ocean, Don't Rush. I also recommend Living Room off an early CD of theirs
Metric - Fantasies, Live It Out & Old World Underground
Love all their albums. Favorite songs: Calculation Theme, Police and The Private, Twilight Galaxy and Collect Call.
RadioHead - In Rainbows (Also every other CD they ever made)
Start to finish this album is amazing. Favourites: Reckoner and Videotape
Martin Tielli - We Didn't Even Suspect He Was The Poppy Salesman & Operation Infinite Joy
Props to my brother for making me like Martin Tielli. I must admit, I used to hate him and would cringe if someone wanted to put him on. I don't know what my problem was. What can I say about him...Canadian, Rock, Legend, Rheostatics. Faves: I'll Never Tear You Apart, Sweet Relief, Voices From the Wilderness, Farmer in the City, Cold Blooded Old Times.
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Beyond explanation. Think Indie, woods, crooning. It just makes sense non? Great album, love it all. Favs: Re: Stacks, For Emma, Flume.
Ok... I need to stop. I could just keep going on and on. I told you I have a music obsession.
