Happy New Year!

I am sitting here with a glass of Pinot Grigio, hoping I can stay awake until midnight and slightly floored that we are saying goodbye to the 00s. It has been a great year so, I am sad to see it go. Here's to hoping that 2010 is even better.

Thank you to my loyal readers. I really appreciate you stopping by each week to read my little blog. Wishing you all a very happy and healthy New Year!

Your comments on Veterinary care were spot on.
I, too, recently became disenchanted with the clinic I have used since moving to the Alberni valley.
Old Nic has been my constant companion for a dozen years but sadly his days are drawing to a close.
A chronic skin condition ($600 at this clinic with absolutely no respite), arthritic hips (barely managed with pain meds) that cause him to stagger about like a drunken sailor (and no, it's not very funny), complete, did I mention COMPLETE, incontinence as well as cataracts would seem to point to but one course of action.
Choking back tears on a particularly bad day I finally found the courage to call for an appointment to end his suffering.
Imagine how relieved I was to learn they don't do euthenasias of convenience and an accesment would be required to determine if his life might be prolonged (not improved) with additional medications. Eighty-five dollars initially and as little as $225 per month should suffice to control some, but not all, of his problems.
After conferring with friends about my disgust at this blatant and insensitive money grab it was suggested I call the SPCA. I did so and was so very, very impressed with their compassionate understanding of my predicament.
Needless to say I shall be happy to donate to the SPCA in future.
Lest we all forget; a Veterinary Clinic is a BUSINESS, the primary motivation of which is PROFIT.
While in my mind they owe you both an apology AND reimbursement in the amount you paid in fines, accepting either would be tantamount to, after breaking no law, pleading guilty to a lesser crime to make it go away. Never a wise course of action.
I would find another clinic to patronize, all the while informing every pet owner I encountered of the shabby treatment you received.
IT"S YOUR RIGHT!
