I Have the House to Myself...

It's Sunday afternoon, the end of a long and exhausting week, and the boys have just left for a birthday party. I have the house to myself for a few hours and it is glorious!

I feel like a greedy little child on Christmas morning, the ideas of what I could do with this time alone are swirling through my mind; I want to do them all but alas, there is only time for a few. So, the question is, what am I going to do with this amazing free time?

Some ideas of what I could do:

  1. Blast the new (but old) Metric album I just picked up. This is a must do. In fact it's already on and it's loud. Like shake the floor with the sub-woofer, make the dog uncomfortable, kinda loud... it's heaven.
  2. Write a blog post without having to clutch my laptop to my chest each time my 3 year old runs by. One of these days, I know he is going to bump my precious Macbook from my lap and I will watch horrified as it flies through the air and smashes to the floor breaking in a million little pieces. Blogging on the couch with no smashing laptop fears, ahhh yes this is also a must do... heaven times two.
  3. Fold a load of laundry without having a little "helper" unfold everything in an attempt to help thereby making double the work for me. Hmmm this would be a practical choice, I could boogie a little to my Metric CD while I do it but, somehow, I doubt that would be the best use of this precious time.
  4. Go for a run. Yes this could be a very good use of time; relaxing and rejuvenating all at once. The sun is shining, I could head down to the water and run along the beach for a few kilometers. This is very tempting but, let's be honest, I can run when Hubby gets home so, maybe not the best choice.
  5. Have a bath and read my book. Ohhh yeah this could be a very good choice. It would be nice to have a bath without anyone pounding at the door announcing frantically that they have to pee. I also would not have to worry about my 3 year old picking the lock and barging in to point to parts of my body and ask: "what's that Mommy?" Seriously, the kid thinks Mommy's bath time calls for an impromptu anatomy lesson. Once, he even pointed out - in a total fit of anger, likely because I would not let him hijack my bath time - that I had no penis. He literally yelled it at me: "You don't have a penis Mommy! I do! Daddy does! But you don't!" I guess he thought I should have been ashamed of my non-maleness. Hmmm a tub with no interruptions could be sensational.
  6. Get a head start on dinner. Ummm nope, this is not tempting at all, way too practical. Scrap that one for sure.
  7. Read some online literary journals and veg on the couch with my laptop and a cocktail. Yes, this is very tempting. Though, the cocktail might be slightly inappropriate, it is only 3pm. I may have to rethink the Cosmopolitan and go for a cold glass of water instead. Hubby may never leave me alone again if he comes home and I am drunk off of girly drinks.
  8. Take a nap. God, I wish I was one of those people that could sleep during the day. If I thought I would actually be able to sleep I would do this for sure.
I am thinking #1, #2 and #7 minus the cocktail... well, maybe just one ;).

So many options, so little time. What would you do if you had a few free hours? Do tell as I am ever so interested.
