I've Never Been More Proud!

Today was a big day for this Canadian Mommy. Like most Canadians, my family was gathered around our TV watching the Canadian Men's Hockey Team win gold.

It was a nail biting game and I nearly had a heart attack when the USA tied it up with 24.4 seconds left but, it all worked out when our boy Crosby scored the winning goal in overtime! All of Canada breathed a deep sign of relief. I screamed and shouted and woke my sleeping nephew up but... it was all worth it!

I was so very proud in that moment. Proud of my country, proud to be Canadian, proud we had won hockey gold on Canadian soil and proud we now held the record for most gold metals ever won by one country in the Winter Olympic games. However, as proud as I was in that moment, nothing compared to the overwhelming feeling of joy I felt a few short hours later.

My three-year-old is a hockey addict. From the time he could walk, he has been playing floor and street hockey. It is not something we pushed upon him, it is something he had begged to do; not a day goes by that he doesn't pull out his hockey sticks and play a little game.

In November, on his third birthday, he begged for ice skates and skating lessons and we obliged. He has been in skating lessons for 8 weeks now and has been doing very well. Yesterday, he came back from his lesson and my Husband said he was getting so good that he thought my three-year-old was ready for Parent and Tot Ice Hockey. And so, after the gold metal game today, we headed out for my little guys first Ice Hockey experience.

I have to say, I have never been more proud in my entire life. As I sat on the side watching my little guy step on the ice and play hockey I became very emotional. When he turned back to me and waved and I saw how happy he was to be out there, the tears began to well up in my eyes.

I don't cry very often; I have been know to deal with a family death dry eyed and have even been accused of being unsympathetic at times. Nonetheless, here I was, watching my little boy accomplish one of his first real goals in life and I was literally weeping with pride and happiness. I can't tell you how inspiring that moment was, it was really beyond description.

Here is my little man shooting on his Daddy who is in net. Just a little Canadian Boy doing what he loves.

I can't believe he can actually skate. He was all over the ice for the whole hour and it blew me away. I have to upload the other video when he skated over to me with a huge grin on his face. It was priceless.

He can skate better than me!!

Congrats on having such an awesome little guy. Just goes to show you all your hard work pays off. My mum always said there was no "luck" to having "good" kids, it's how you raise them and Ozzie is pretty special. :o)
